How to Sell Each Product Type

This article will walk you through the cashier's steps of adding a product to the check, assigning customers and discounts as needed, and then paying the balance.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Regular Item

As explained in the 'How to Create a Product' article. A Regular Item is anything you can sell one-off, and does not require an assignment of any kind. These can be inventory items like Merchandise and pre-packaged Drinks/Snacks.

In this example, we are selling the customers a single water bottle.

  1. Select the Category your item resides in.
  2. Select Regular Item product from the category.
  3. Adjust quantity, if needed, by clicking on the line item added to the check.
  4. Click the PAY button, and select how you would like to pay.
  5. For this example, I have selected to pay by cash. Since I need to give the customer change, I have selected the CHANGE option, and entered how much cash the customer has given me and then clicked OK.
  6. The system has automatically calculated how much change to give back to the customer. At this time, the Cash drawer should have automatically popped open for you to exchange the monies.
  7. Based on your system settings, the POS may prompt you to print a receipt or will automatically print it out for you. This also includes if the system will prompt you to close the check, or if it will auto-close once the balance is $0.

Credit Item

A Credit Item is an item in which we need to assign a credit to a customer's account. They will need these credits on their accounts in order to be assigned into an activity/race. If they do not have enough credits on their account to satisfy the required amount on the activity, then they will not be able to participate.

In this example, we will be selling & assigning a customer to a single race product. (This could be used for any type of activity.)

  1. Select the Category your item resides in.
  2. Select Credit Item product from the category.
  3. We need to assign the credit(s) on this item to a customer's account. The N/A here means, "Not Assigned". Go ahead and click anywhere on the line item to edit & assign.
  4. Now, click on the Swipe Card button. (This is your SEARCH button.)
  5. You can type in the customer's name and then click enter, or click the search button.
  6. Once you see the customer's name in the search results list, click their name, and then click OK.
  7. Click the PAY button, and select how you would like to pay.
  8. For this example, I have selected to pay by External Credit. This means I will be running the card through a credit card machine that is not connected to Clubspeed. Once the payment is approved on the machine, then I can mark the check as paid. As you can see, you also have the option to select the card type, and enter any needed notes before clicking OK.
  9. Based on your system settings, the POS may prompt you to print a receipt or will automatically print it out for you. This also includes if the system will prompt you to close the check, or if it will auto-close once the balance is $0.

Sell Credit Items to multiple people on same check.

Now, we will build upon your knowledge of selling a single Credit item to a single person, and sell multiple Credit items to multiple people on the same check. Think of this example as ringing up a family of three!

  1. Just like in the example above, select the category the credit item resides in.
  2. Now, select the quantity of customers that need to be assigned to these items. I have selected QTY 3.
  3. Then, select the item. You will now see 3 separate line items added to the check.
  4. The fastest way to assign all of the customers is to click on the ASSIGN button in the menu.
  5. From here, you will click the Swipe Card (SEARCH) button, and find your first customer's name.
  6. Once you select the first customer, you will see their name is assigned to the 1st line item.
  7. Continue doing this process for the rest of the items.
  8. Process payment as needed.

// IF the item you want to add to the check is showing in the Popular Items section, you can also click these as many times as you need to add them to the check.

Membership Item

Selling a Membership is very similar to selling a credit item! The concept is that you are assigning the membership, and it's expiration date to the customer's account.

  1. Select the Category your membership resides in.
  2. Select the Membership Item.
  3. The membership now needs to be assigned to the customer's account, so click on the line item in the check.
  4. Click on Swipe Card (search) button.
  5. Find your customer, and click OK! (In this example, my customer is already in the queue, so I selected 'In Queue')
  6. Pay as usual!

  5. Once you pay the balance of the check, the system will automatically send the ticket to the kitchen printer.

Restaurant Style

In this example, I will show you how to sell a food item Restaurant Style where the customer leaves their check open until the end.

  1. Add Appetizer to check
  2. To send the appetizer to the kitchen printer, click on the Utensil button at the top of the check.
  3. So we don't forget who the order is for, I like to assign the check to a customer's account. Click on the Notes sections to do this now! (See example's below)
  4. In the meantime, if you need to put through another order, click the small Triangle icon at the top of the check to minimize the current check.
  5. When your customer is ready to order their entree, click on the Find button and click the search button. Their check will be listed on the right column under Open Checks. Click it once, then click OK at the bottom to open.
  6. Now add the entrees one at a time, and make any edits to toppings and such, and click the utensil button to push the order to the kitchen printer.
  7. Continue this process for the dessert as well.
  8. When the customer is ready to pay, you will need to print the Receipt and give it to them to fill out the Tip & Total. Once you have this info, you can enter it into the system by clicking on the Gratuity at the bottom of the check. Enter in the amount, and click SAVE.
  9. At this point, you can now click pay and complete the check as usual.
