TABLE OF CONTENTS
Step 1: Creating a Gift Card Item
In the Admin Portal, navigate to the Products Tab:
- From the Products tab
- Select the Category your Gift Cards will be stored in.
- Select Gift Card Item in the drop down.
- Click on “Create New Product”
- Enter in the required info: Item name, price, category, ect.
- TWO important options will be the “Dollars” section, as well as, the 'Credits'.
- DOLLARS: Enter here how much money this item will be loading onto the gift card. You can have pre-set amounts, such as $10/$20/$50.
- CREDITS: Enter how many credits will be loaded onto this gift card, select the Credit Type, and enter in the expiration date of the Credits (if applicable)
EXAMPLE #1: Monetary Gift Card
// Name the Gift Card item ‘$25 Gift Card’ and at the bottom enter in the Dollar field 25.
EXAMPLE #2: Activity Gift Card
// Name the gift card item as a quantified session (or activity), and set how many credits will be allotted in the credits section. (Example seen below)
// Or you can create a 'flexible amount' item (like the one below) by starting at $1. At the POS, your staff will be able to change the QUANTITY of the Gift Card being sold to change the amount being purchased.
EXAMPLE: QTY 1 = $1 <or> QTY 20 = $20
Note: I stressed the fact that you will change the quantity of the product not the price.
Here are two examples:
-
You want to sell a $20 gift card. You select the $1 gift card item, change the quantity to 20. Now you will be adding 20x$1 items onto the card. So the cost will be $20 and there will be $20 on the gift card.
-
Now here is what would happen if you did it the wrong way. Again you want to sell a $20 gift card. You select the $1 gift card item but this time change the price to $20. By doing this, you have the correct sales price but you are still only putting $1 onto the gift card. So the customer just bought a $1 gift card for $20.
eGiftcard Limited Inventory
As of version 21.3 (November 2021) you can now mark the Gift Card Products as inventory for online sales. This will allow you to create a sense of urgency and exclusivity among your shoppers. Check out our Inventory article here!
For Example:
Set special pricing and inventory for selling eGiftcards. Offer a $50 gift card for $40, but with an inventory of only 5 cards for sale, this gives your guest the impulse to snag on the last available eGiftcards for this deal.
