Can't Delete Printer | Remove Printer From Registry

In some cases, we may need to delete a pre-existing ResultPrinter1 but Windows isn't allowing it.

  1. Press Windows + R and type: regedit
  2. Click OK to launch the Registry Editor
  3. Expand the folders below in sequence
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Printers\Roamed
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
  4. In the right-pane, right-click the printer you want to remove
  5. In some cases, in the left-pane, you might need to right-click the printer folder instead
  6. Choose Delete

Sometimes if the issue continues you may find additional printers here:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Drivers\Version-3
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Drivers\Version-4

If you get issues when trying to delete printers, stop the print spooler service first before deleting but be sure to restart it when done!
