The USB port can also be used to power the pad. The Serial cable is still needed for data transmission.
A USB to Serial device can be used for PCs only (Wyse support for these is very sketchy). The PC will typically need the driver installed for the USB to Serial cable. This is cable-specific, so ensure you have the right one. The COM port settings can then be set in Device Manager once this is installed.
